Veridos continues to supply ePassport to the Republic of Kosovo

Berlin, October 18, 2016 – Veridos will continue to provide the Republic of Kosovo with ePassports for the next five years. Besides the supply of the ePassport, Veridos has been delivering a state-of-the-art system solution to personalize the ePassports for the last three years and will continue to do so. Veridos will be also responsible for data management as well as service and maintenance for the software and hardware infrastructure.

“We are very proud that our partnership with the Republic of Kosovo will carry on. It bears witness to our successful cooperation to protect Kosovar citizens’ identities for the last three years”, comments Veridos CEO Hans-Wolfgang Kunz.

Kosovo’s passports were the first European ID documents worldwide to feature the new Supplemental Access Control (SAC) protocol. SAC is a digital access protocol that all new European travel documents issued from December 2014 are obliged to support. “We are honored to be part of the process that allowed Kosovar citizens to fulfill technical criteria for ePassports related to travel visa free in Schengen area” says Labinot Carreti, Senior Vice President Global Sales.

Thanks to SAC, personal and biometric data included in the ePassport are better secured. The Extended Access Control (EAC) protocol protects these data against any unauthorized access. The solution was developed by Giesecke & Devrient (G&D), one of Veridos’ parent companies. It is based on the PACE (Password Authenticated Connection Establishment) cryptographic protocol and is among the most secure technologies currently available.
