Veridos with Focus on Combining Security and Convenience at ICAO Symposium in Montreal

Berlin, October 12, 2015 – Veridos is focusing on Logical Data Structure 2 (LDS2) and Public Key Directory (PKD) at the 11th ICAO Machine Readable Travel Document (MRTD) Symposium, from October 13 through October 16 in, Montreal, Canada. Both topics will be presented as part of the official conference program. Veridos showcases a live LDS2 demo explaining use cases.

„Secure travelling must become more efficient and adapt to changing expectations“, said Dr. Hermann Sterzinger, COO of Veridos. „Travelers want quick and easy passages, through airports or at check points. In order to achieve this combination of security and convenience, all players in this business must cooperate. We need the infrastructure, we need global standards, and we need the corresponding solutions and products. With its Machine Readable Travel Document Symposium, the ICAO provides an ideal platform to discuss and further develop these topics. The focus on Logical Data Structure 2 is a step in the right direction and will enable the next generation border control.“

ICAO‘s planned new specification Logical Data Structure 2 (LDS2) will include electronic replacements for entry or exit stamps and visa stickers on the passport chip. This integration of entry and exit information as well as visa information enables authorities to assess within seconds whether a person needs a closer check, be it for example because they have stayed in a country while there was an outbreak of a contagious illness or because they exceeded their approved duration of stay. For travelers, the new technology makes border crossings faster as the visas on the chip can be read by modern automated border controls.

„The second focus for Veridos at the ICAO MRTD Symposium is the benefit of ICAO‘s Public Key Directory (PKD)“, said Sterzinger. The ICAO PKD supports the global interoperability of ePassport validation and acts as a central broker to manage the exchange of certificates and certificate revocation lists. „Veridos supports the Bundesdruckerei to whom ICAO awarded the design and operation of its PKD service. Veridos provides project management for the ICAO PKD service development and implementation as well as operational and technical support for ICAO and the PKD participating countries.”
